Welcome!

I’m always looking for signs from the universe, and sometimes I find them in antique shops.

Sadly, this sign was not for sale, so I took a picture of it, and decided to recreate it at home.

I didn’t know what I would do with it, but its message has stuck with me since I found it about a year ago. While I imagine it was originally used in a deli or restaurant, I love how the words “TODAYS SPECIAL” could hold different meanings. As I was thinking of what to call my newsletter, I remembered the sign and it felt correct.

I’m always collecting and curating images, and looking out for things that catch my eye.

Todays Special is a place where I will share some of those things, along with stories and pictures, and food for thought. It’s a more in-depth look into my creative inspirations and my process, served with a slice of life.

Today is special because we make it so. Thank you for considering subscribing and joining me on this new journey!

What might you hope to see from me in this space?

Things that caught my eye and my ear this week:

  1. Eve Ewing’s new book, Original Sins: The (Mis)education of Black and Native Children and the Construction of American Racism. I spotted it at Blackbird Books in the Outer Sunset District of San Francisco, one of my favorite bookshops.

  1. “Peace Piece” by Bill Evans. This song caught my ear, and is featured in my video at the top of this post.
